(Salzburg, 21.04.2015) – From the most legendary Olympic champions to the most humble of students and fire-fighters, the Wings for Life World Run is everybody’s opportunity to take on the world.

There is just a week left for athletes of all abilities to enter their name, and have the chance to pit their running skills against the likes of multiple Olympic skiing champion Aksel Lund Svindal, Formula One ace Mark Webber, Bollywood actor Ayushmaan Khurrana as well as tens of thousands of amateur athletes across the world.

One thing unites all these competitors; on May 3 they will have one objective in mind – keeping clear of the Catcher Cars, a virtual finishing line which will slowly but surely reel in the entire field.

But who will have run the furthest in that lung-bursting battle?

It all starts at 11am UTC in locations from Cape Town to Santiago, Melbourne to Munich and the best part is there’s still time to take part and help raise money for spinal cord injury research. Online registration closes on April 28 at 11 am UTC.

Of course there are also world class endurance runners, such as Austrian ultra-runner Christian Schiester, three time 100km-world champion Italian Giorgio Calcaterra or South African Ryan Sandes the first athlete in history to win all of the four 4 Dessert races.

Some of them see running as just one part of a long day at the office like reigning Ironman Triathlon world champion Sebastian Kienle, former Ironman world champion Belgian Frederik van Lierde and former Ironman European champion Camilla Pedersen of Denmark.

German Moto GP host Alex Hofmann, German actor Matthias Schweighöfer, Italian comic actor Giovanni Storti and South African District 9 and Blood Diamond actress Vanessa Haywood have also decided to swap the spotlight for the sunlight.

POLITICIANS AND ROYALTY

Politicians won’t be hunting for votes for a change, they will be chasing down each other.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and his ministers Kakha Kaladze and Levan Kipiani. Former Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor has vowed to run in his country’s capital Ljubljana while Taizo Mikazuki, governor of Japan’s Shiga prefecture will also join the battle.

And you want royalty? Well you’ve got it with Prince Abdulaziz Turki Al Faisal of the House of Saud.

Drama will be played out across the world and on May 3 we will know the winners – the clock is ticking.

ABOUT THE WINGS FOR LIFE WORLD RUN

Introduced in 2014, the Wings for Life World Run is a global running event on May 3, 2015. Athletes in 35 locations around the world start at precisely the same time, 11am UTC. As if that wasn’t unique enough, the race has no finish line. Instead, the runners are followed by a Catcher Car, which takes off 30 minutes after the start at 15km/h and steadily increases its speed until the last athletes have been caught. Last year’s global champion, Lemawork Ketema, was caught after more than 5 hours and 78 km. This year, the Wings for Life World Run App is additionally available for training and registering for the Selfie Run. Learn more: www.wingsforlifeworldrun.com
